Historic Ferrari 212 Export Barchetta to Be Featured in RM Auctions' Villa D’Este Sale

R.M. auctions,  the esteemed auction house to the collector car industry, offering the finest cars in the world to the most discerning of collectors, has announced that the historic, matching numbers 1952 Ferrari 212 Export Barchetta, chassis no. 0158 ED, as a featured attraction for its exclusive Villa Erba sale, returning to Italy, May 23.

Ferrari, 0158 ED was a significant early racing model as it was the final Touring-bodied, race-ready “Export” built by the Ferrari factory.

Powered by potent Tipo 212 V-12 engine, this Ferrari spent its formative years in Italy.   Here it campaigned quite extensively through 1956 and finished on the podium numerous times.  High-profile appearances include  "back-to-back" runs at the famed Targa Florio in 1952 and 1953.   The Ferrari 212 was also an entrant in the 1956 Mille Miglia.

The car’s success however extended beyond the race track as after going into retirement it has continued to prove itself by winning awards at some of the world’s most competitive concours events.  These include the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance,  on five separate occasions, claiming a Second Place award in 1966 and again in 1973.

The Ferrari 212 is being offered to the market at RM’s forthcoming Villa Erba sale in the same livery it wore for the 1956 Mille Miglia, 0158 ED.   The Ferrari is expected to to purchased in excess of €5 million.

For interested collectors, the car can be previewed at this week’s Retromobile show in Paris (RM exhibit: Hall 1, Stand 27). A full description detailing 0158 ED’s history, including complete race record, is available for viewing here:

“While many early Ferraris were campaigned hard by their first owners, few emerged largely unscathed from the rigors of competition. 0158 ED is one such example. Matching numbers, it is a proven contender both on and off the track,” says Max Girardo, Managing Director, RM Auctions – Europe. “We’re thrilled to have been entrusted with this very special 212 Export at our Villa Erba sale.  Arguably one of the finest of its kind, it is a fantastic dual-purpose Ferrari, ready for use at concours events, rallies and historic racing worldwide. This includes eligibility for such well-known, historic European events as the Tour Auto, Monaco Historic Grand Prix, Le Mans Classic, Goodwood and of course, the Mille Miglia.”

RM’s boutique Villa Erba sale is a featured highlight of the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este weekend that takes place every two years on the shores of beautiful Lake Como, Italy.    For villas at Lake Como check out VacationDiggs  and then return to LaLuxore where we'll keep you updated on the latest insights and news to live a luxurious lifestyle.

I know nothing about cars.. Other than a steering wheel, I need turn signals to turn and the gas and brake pedals are pretty necessary to get from point A to B. My parents made me learn how to drive with a stick shift and my second day driving at the sweet age of 16, I ran my jeep into the car in front of me. Anyway, this is a beautiful car! but what on earth is a potent engine? The color is really nice as well. The only thing missing is a fancy driving hat instead of helmet and a picnic basket, why is it always about going fast and furious?
